Elizabeth “Lisa” Calderon, 54, of Hobbs, NM, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Covenant Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas.
A vigil is scheduled for 7:00 PM, Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at St. Helena Catholic Church, 100 E. Bender Blvd., Hobbs, NM with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at St. Helena Catholic Church with Monsignor Arturo Banuelas officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. A graveside service will take place at 3:30 PM, Wednesday, October 18, 2023 in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM.
Lisa was born May 24, 1969 in Carlsbad, NM, to David T. and Carmen (Lara) Montoya. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1987. Lisa received a basketball scholarship with Sterling College in Kansas. She then completed her Bachelor of Science in Community Health at NMSU. Lisa married Eppie Calderon August 8, 1992 in Carlsbad, NM. She worked as an educator and coach with the Loving Schools before moving to Hobbs in 2002. Lisa continued her career as an educator with the Hobbs school system. She made an impact on countless students throughout the years. Lisa enjoyed crafting, gardening, reading, shopping, and attending sporting events, but most of all she loved spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jazell Montoya Carnero.
Survivors are her husband, Eppie Calderon; daughters: Rachel Schmeidler and husband, Andrew, Elena Taylor and husband, Darrence; son, Stephen Calderon; grandchildren: Benjamin and Lila Schmeidler; parents: David and Carmen Montoya; siblings: Michael Montoya, Carla Duarte and husband, Tommy, Anthony Montoya and wife, Crystal, Leticia Da Silva and husband, Brandon; mother-in-law, Rachel Sutton and husband, Mark, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lisa Calderon Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of Hobbs Municipal Schools, 1515 E. Sanger, Hobbs, NM 88240
