Elizabeth Vernon Howard, 62, of West Thomas St., Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at her home. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, February 20, 2013, 11:00 AM, at First United Methodist Church, 207 N. Halagueno St., with Rev. Dan Boyd officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Elizabeth Howard was born on December 28, 1950, in Neath, Wales, United Kingdom, to Thomas Rhys Vernon and Elizabeth Lilian (Williams) Davies. She received her bachelor's degree from Queen Mary College University of London and her post-graduate diploma from Cardiff University in Wales. Elizabeth worked as a research assistant at Tenovus Cancer Research Institute in Wales. She also participated in medical research at UT Southwestern, Dallas, Texas and at the University of Indiana, Indianapolis, Indiana. Elizabeth married Mark Howard on November 10, 1973 in Lovington, New Mexico. She worked as office manager for Mark A K Howard, M.D. FACP since 1982. Elizabeth was an active member of PEO and served as a region chair and president of chapter A. Elizabeth was active with the BPA at Carlsbad High School and was a supporter of the Cavemen. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the New Mexico Society of Medical Assistants and AAUW. She enjoyed traveling, poetry, walking her dogs and watching Welsh rugby. Survivors are her husband, Dr. Mark Howard of Carlsbad, NM; brothers: Tudor Vernon Davies of Cardiff, Wales, UK and Jonathan Samuel Vernon Davies of Briton Ferry, Wales, UK; and two nephews: Thomas Owain Davies and James Rhys Davies Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
