Elizabeth Agnes Bruhl McCollaum "Betty", 89, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2012, surrounded by family in their home on Washington Avenue, Carlsbad, New Mexico. There will be no public visitation. A Funeral Service is scheduled for Saturday, January 7, 2012, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Lawson officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM in Queen Cemetery, Queen, New Mexico with Pastor Rusty Smith officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Elizabeth Agnes Bruhl McCollaum was born on September 26, 1922 in Pine, Arizona to Max M. and E. Agnes (Cottom) Bruhl. She grew up and went to school in Las Vegas, NM where her dad was the forest ranger. Betty graduated from Highlands University. On October 18, 1948, Betty married Ben McCollaum in Carlsbad, NM. They lived on the McCollaum ranch and in Carlsbad. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Bruhl of California; sister, Margaret White of Carlsbad, NM; mother and father-in-law, Opal Green McCollaum and John Joe McCollaum of Queen Rt., Carlsbad, NM. Survivors are her husband of 63 years, Ben McCollaum of Carlsbad, NM; three children: Susan McCollaum of Carlsbad, NM, Ben McCollaum, Jr. and wife, Sherry of Carlsbad, NM, Mary Ola Barrett and husband, Robert of Ada, Oklahoma; two grandsons: Joseph Barrett and wife, Katy of Mansfield, TX, John Barrett of Mansfield, TX; sisters-in-law: Ola Stratton of Rio Rancho, NM, Joyce McCollaum of Roswell, NM; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Pat McCollaum of Queen Rt., Carlsbad, NM and nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Joseph Barrett, John Barrett, Ben McCollaum, Jr., Daniel Campbell, Robert Barrett and Thomas Phillips. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
