Obituary Elise Majors Thompson, 94, of Live Oak Place in Carlsbad, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018, at Carlsbad Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kevin Pence of the First Baptist Church of Carlsbad officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Elise was born on May 11, 1923, in Belleville, Arkansas, to Joseph Ladd Majors, Sr. and Mattie May Lampkins Majors. She graduated from Belleville High School and attended Arkansas State University for one year. She married W.J. Buddy Thompson on December 25, 1942, in Belleville. They moved to Carlsbad in 1946. Buddy and Elise and his sister, Willie A. Bill Russell, and her husband, Fred Russell, owned and operated Green Heights Grocery on Mermod and Cypress streets from 1945 to 1965. Elise and Buddy opened Elises Fashions on the southeast corner of Canyon and Mermod streets in September 1975. After Buddys death, Elise continued to operate Elises Fashions until 2001 when she retired. Elise was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carlsbad since 1947. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers Leland M. Majors, Elwin L. Majors, Harold W. Majors, Sr., John F. Majors, Sr., and Joseph L. Majors, Jr. She is survived by two children, Billy Joe Thompson of Carlsbad and Martha Sukovich and husband Steve of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Scott A. Sukovich of New York, NY, and Ryan T. Thompson and wife Amy of Austin, TX; three sisters, Pauline Fair of Little Rock, AR, Francis Buckman of Dewitt, AR, and Iris Susie Christy of Georgetown, TX; sister-in-law Doris Majors of Danville, AR; and numerous nieces and nephews who were dear to her. Elise was beloved by all, especially by her children and grandchildren, who called her Beeb. She leaves an enduring legacy of love and kindness etched into the hearts of the many whose lives she graced. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and her family is at peace because she is free from pain and living in His presence. Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church of Carlsbad, 112 N.
