Eli Duarte

Eli Duarte, 75, of Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Covenant Hospital in Hobbs, NM, surrounded by family. Eli was born on January 25, 1949, in Carlsbad, NM to Salvador and Refugia (Gallegos) Duarte.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service is scheduled for 2pm on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Carlsbad Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

One of Eli’s passions was driving trucks. Over the years he worked for the city, delivered milk, and worked in the oil field. After retirement, Eli went on to serve the schools as a janitor. He devoted much of his time supporting his grandchildren in their endeavors, from sports, to college, and everyday childcare. His grandson Jaxson was his sidekick. He fondly referred to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as his “piglets”. Eli loved to go for his daily cruise which usually included his beloved dog, Dallas. When asked where he was going, his response was always, “To the moon.” 

Eli was preceded in death by his parents; son, George Duarte; grandson, Michael Martinez; and three siblings: Josie Duarte, Virginia Duarte, and Frank “Poncho” Duarte.

Eli is survived by Rose Mary Duarte of Hobbs, NM; children: Clarissa Duarte (John Duran) of Carlsbad, NM, Jeff Duarte (Rebecca Gomez) of Hobbs, NM, Angela Escareno of Carlsbad, NM, Michael Hernandez of Phoenix, AZ, and Jimmy John Rodriguez of Carlsbad, NM; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Loudes Duarte; brothers: Rick Duarte (Grace), Victor Duarte (Arlene), Zeke Duarte, Cruz Duarte, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
