Elevirta Leyva, 94, of Loving, NM, passed away July 31, 2022 in Lubbock, Texas. She was born April 23, 1928 in Terlingua, Texas to Jesus and Jesusita (Fuentez) Arispe.
Elevirta lived a long, happy life. She created many memories, and touched many lives in her 94 years on Earth. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Loving. Part of her duties at Our Lady of Grace, was attending prayer meetings where she met many friends, who soon became family. She was a happy person, which radiated to those all around. She enjoyed listening to music, and with good music, came her dancing; she loved to sing and dance to a good tune.
Elevirta met the love of her life, Theofilo, whom she spent 50+ years with. They enjoyed attending bingo together and raising their 9 children. Elevirta always had a great sense of style and loved to look her best. She spent 10 years devoting her time to the children of Loving Elementary as a foster grandparent.
Elevirta is preceded in death by her husband Theofilo; 3 brothers, 2 sisters, 1 grandchild and 2 great-grandchildren. Elevirta is survived by her 9 children: Josie Harvey and late husband, Tom, Shirley Villegas and husband, Samuel, Theofilo “Sonny” Leyva and wife, Victoria, Ida Leyva, Norma Ornelas and husband, Ray, Pete Leyva, Harry Leyva, Roman Leyva and late wife, Catalina, and Manuel Leyva and wife, Cindy. Elevirta was surrounded with love by 26 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial for Elevirta will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 26th at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Loving, NM. Interment will follow at Loving Cemetery in Loving, NM.
