Edward "Ted" Lewis, 84, of Miehls Drive, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 at his home.
There will be no public visitation. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, August 3, 2016, 3:00 PM, at Blodgett Street Baptist Church with Pastor David Prell officiating. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Edward (Ted) N. Lewis was born on March 9, 1932 to Edward N. Lewis Sr. and Dorothy (Frank) Lewis.
Ted graduated from Kaiser High school in Dayton, Ohio in June of 1950. He entered into the service of the United States Navy also in June of that year. Ted served as a machinist on the USS Shangre-La as well as the USS Yorktown during the Korean campaign. He received several service ribbons as well as a purple heart.
Ted earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from The Ohio State University as well as a Master of Education from Colorado State University.
His first teaching assignment was at Glenwood Home for Boys in Glenwood, Illinois. In 1960 he came to Colorado and taught Industrial Arts and Arvada High school. After receiving his Master's degree he was a professor at Metropolitan State College in Denver. The last nineteen years of his career was an administrator at Front Range Community College in Westminster Colorado.
Ted received his pilot's license and was able to enjoy many years of flying. His dream was to have his own airplane. He and Leslie moved to an airplane community at Tri County airport in Erie, Co. in 1981 where he was able to see his dream fulfilled.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved the mountains of Colorado. Activities that each of his three children Cathy, Tom and David also enjoyed. He always wanted participate in the Cowboy Action Shoots and along with Leslie was a member of the Seven Rivers Regulators for many years.
Although he suffered from the chronic pain of severe arthritis which eventually took away all of his freedom both He and Leslie were blessed with three angels who all loved and cared for them both.
Two of his angels are from Golden Services. Alison Caron cared for him each and every day. Another is his nurse Cameron Ward who would come to him anytime he needed her. Sue McBride is a special friend who loved and cared for both Ted and Leslie.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Chief and Mabel Gehring; brother, Donald Edward Lewis and son-in-law, Guy Sheeon.
Survivors are his wife, Leslie A. Lewis of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Cathy Grauerholz and husband, Rick of Hershey, Nebraska; sons: Tom Lewis and wife, Jennifer of Roscoe, Illinois, David Lewis and wife, Catherine of Galena, Illinois; grandchildren: Kelsey Hayden and husband, Hobbes, Christine Grauerholz, Joshua Grauerholz and wife, Chelsea, Sarah Becker and husband, David, Jessica Lewis, Victoria Manley and husband, Jason, Zachry Lewis and wife, Catherine; great-grandchildren: Connor Gorton and William Guy Lewis; sister, Nona Lee Nawrocki and several nieces and nephews.
