Edith Myrl (Boyd) Jowers, 79, of Grassburr Lane, passed away August 30, 2012 at Landsun Homes in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Funeral Service will be held at the First Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Mike Jowers officiating. Interment with follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Edith was born November 3, 1932 in Avery, Texas, moving with her parents to Carlsbad at age eight. She married Ernest Jowers, who she met when he moved across the street from her in 1947. High school sweethearts, they married on September 14, 1948. Edith & Ernest had 2 sons and a daughter. After the children left home, Edith went back to school where she would work as a school bus driver, parking it and then attending class. She graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1972. She continued her education taking college classes in Carlsbad. Edith worked as the first female secretary/dispatcher for the Carlsbad office of the New Mexico State Police. Edith opened a ceramic shop in Carlsbad, teaching others about the craft until her retirement. Edith was never idle. In her retirement, she sewed, embroidered, croqueted and quilted for family members and friends. Even when resting, Edith was never without her needlework. Edith is survived by her devoted husband Ernest Jowers of Carlsbad, New Mexico, son Mike Jowers and wife Sandy of Carlsbad, son Danny Jowers of Carlsbad and daughter Kay Barnett and husband Brad of Edgewood, New Mexico. She is also survived by sisters Wanda Gallaway and Helen McBee of Carlsbad, Doris Harrison of Ogden, Utah and Ilene Holland of Membres, NM; brothers Donald Boyd of Carlsbad, Gary Boyd of Albuquerque and Alton Boyd of Kentucky; grandchildren Missie Duncan, Mark Cotz and Jennifer Tavarez; 10 great-grandchildren & 2 great great-grandchildren. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Willie & Edgar Boyd, brothers Melvin & Truman Boyd, sister Louise Daring and great grandson Carlos.
