Edith B. League

Edith B. League, 91, of Westridge Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away January 1, 2011 at Landsun Homes. There will be no public visitation. A Remembrance of Life is scheduled for Tuesday, January 4, 2011, 3:00 PM, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Boyd officiating. Interment was in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Edith B. League was born December 7, 1919 in Goodwater, Alabama to John Wesley and Kathryn (Peterson) Brooks. She taught Sunday School for 50 years. Edith was a hospital volunteer for over 60 years, retiring in 2009. She was very active in the Emmaus organization and was a CASA volunteer and had been honored in 1993 as Volunteer of the Year. She was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell League; daughter, Elaine Shaw; son, David League; granddaughter, Kristi Madrid; six brothers and sisters. Survivors are son, Joel Robert League and wife, Carol of Shelbyville, KY; five grandchildren: Scott R. Shaw and wife, Peggy of Plano, TX, Delisa Riley and husband, Stephen of Pennsylvania, Jody League and wife, Becky of Shelbyville, KY, Michael League of Austin, TX, Jamie League of Austin, TX; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
