Obituary Edward Russell Rennie, 96, of Mountain Shadow Drive, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2018, at Landsun HSC. He was surrounded by his loving family. A graveside service will be held on December 20, 2018, at 10:00 AM in the new section at Carlsbad Cemetery. Chaplain Terry McKean will be officiating the service. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Ed was born to John Rennie, Sr. and Elizabeth Moffitt Rennie on May 6, 1922, in West Frankfort, Illinois. He was the last of nine children: he had four brothers and four sisters. Ed grew up during the Great Depression. He met Betty June Calvert while in high school; they fell in love and were married on November 21, 1940. Ed and June were married for 76 years. On January 21, 1943, Ed joined the United States Army in order to serve his country during WWII. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations with the 408th Medical collecting Company. Ed drove an ambulance used for transporting wounded personnel from battle fronts to hospitals for medical and surgical aid. In case of an emergency he administered first aid to the injured prior to moving. Ed received Stars for Battle Participation in New Guinea, the Philippine Liberation and Luzon, three Campaign Ribbons, Good Conduct Medal, Medical Badge and Motor Vehicle Drivers Awards. He was honorably discharged on January 19, 1946. After the war Ed and June resumed married life and started a family. Ed and June moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico in the spring of 1952. He went to work for the Duval Corporation. Ed was a Shaft Foreman for the Duval Corporation for serval years. In the fall of 1983 he supervised the sealing of the 800foot mine shaft to close off the Wills-Weaver section of the mine. On February 25, 1984 the Duval Corporation sent Ed a picture album, showing the work that was done in order to seal off the mine shaft, as a token of their appreciation for his work. Ed retired in 1986; he and June began a new career of RVing. They spent several years traveling the country with their beloved shih tzu, Misty. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings and his beloved wife, Betty June Rennie. Survivors are daughter, Linda Rennie-Tice and husband, David of Carlsbad, NM; son, Steven E. Rennie and wife, Barbara of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Leslie Sisk of Ruidoso, NM; Steven B. Rennie and wife, Jenny of Carlsbad, NM; Kyle Rennie of Scottdale, AZ; great grandchildren: Steven Gage Rennie and wife, Kaitlyn; Austin Rennie and Madison Rennie all of Carlsbad, NM; and beloved dog, Toby.
