Earl Lloyd, 80, of Sandy Lane, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away August 31, 2014 in Lubbock, Texas. There will be no visitation, cremation will take place. Private family services will be held. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Earl Lloyd was born October 20, 1933 in Iredell County, North Carolina to Grover and Lou Ellen (Sparks) Lloyd. He grew up and graduated from High School in Statesville, NC. Earl served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict and for a few months he served on the USS Clarion River LSMR 409 with his brother, Clyde Lloyd. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he went into law enforcement. He was Chief of Police in Kings Mountain, NC. Earl spent 30 plus years in law enforcement. In 1984 he retired as a Training Officer in Hobbs, NM and they moved to Carlsbad, NM where they owned and operated several businesses. He loved to harass his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Bill Lloyd, Harrison Lloyd, Leroy Lloyd and Robert "Buck" Lloyd. Survivors are his wife of 50 plus years, Vickie Lloyd of Carlsbad, NM; daughters, Lisa Lloyd of Carlsbad, NM; sons: James Lloyd and wife, Mendy of Carlsbad, NM, Charles East and wife, Becky of California, Steve East of California; grandchildren: Chimene Armstrong, Brianna Armstrong, Conner Lloyd, Madison Lloyd, Brandon Lloyd, Rachael East, Dawn East, Sherre England; brother, Clyde Lloyd of North Carolina and sisters: Joyce Holland of North Carolina and Shirley Lounsbery of Washington, DC. Memorial contributions may be made to National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
