Dwayne B. Smith

Dwayne B. Smith, 81, of Caballero Drive, Carlsbad, NM passed away March 15, 2025 at Covenant Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Sunset Church of Christ with Dale Gifford officiating. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.

Dwayne was born June 10, 1943 in Carlsbad, NM to Dubert and Irene (Beach) Smith. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1961. Dwayne attended both NMSU-Carlsbad and NMSU-Las Cruces. He served in the Army National Guard. Dwayne worked in the family business, Smith and Son’s Welding Shop, for many years. He later worked as a machinist at Industrial Electric Motors 22 years before retiring in 2011. Dwayne loved hunting, shooting guns, and was a certified gunsmith. He was a hunter safety instructor for many years. Dwayne was a member of Carlsbad Sportsman Club, NRA, and New Mexico Shooting Sports Association. He was a long-time member of the Church of Christ, both Fox and Lake and more recently Sunset Church of Christ. Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Duberta Croley.

Survivors are his wife, Melody Smith; sons: James M. Smith and wife, Sandy, David Smith; daughter, Barbara Alward and husband, Mark; stepchildren: Rodney Smith, Holly Tyree and husband, Phil, and James E. Smith and wife, Mindy; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers: James Smith and wife, Lorna, Dwight Smith, Tommy Smith and wife, Teri, and numerous nieces and nephews.
