Dru Sanders

Dru Sanders, 39, of North Canal Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Dru was born on July 26, 1982, in Artesia. New Mexico to Jimmy and Monti Sanders.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, October 11, 2021, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at the Walter Gerrells Civic Center. Interment will follow at the Carlsbad Cemetery.

Dru was born and raised in Artesia, NM and attended school at Artesia High. He then went to New Mexico Junior College on a rodeo scholarship, where he got his degree in Team Roping and drinking beer. He married Bonnie, September 27th 2003 and they went on to have 3 beautiful girls, Emma, Hanna and Jayci. As a young kid, boys will be boys, Dru loved to play in the dirt, he grew up to work for Bullseye Construction, where he continued to play in the dirt for 16 more years. Dru was a family man. The best daddy ever. His life revolved around his girls, never missed any kind of event going on in their life. To know Dru was to know you had a friend forever, he never met a stranger. There wasn’t a day that he wasn’t making someone smile or laugh, mostly laugh. A true gentle giant. His greatest joy in life was to be at the softball field, coaching, calling in pitches, watching all of his girls (and not just his babies, ALL of his girls) play the game they love. When not at the ball field, he enjoyed hunting, riding the razor, camping and the DALLAS COWBOYS. He made several calls (through the remote) to Jerry Jones. Football Sunday will never be the same. Our lives will never be the same.

Dru was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Berl and Addie Ruth Ancell. Paternal grandparents, Alfred Sanders and Sandra Dawson.

Dru is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Sanders of Carlsbad, NM; three beautiful daughters: Emma Sanders, Hanna Sanders, and Jayci Sanders all of Carlsbad, NM; parents, Jimmy and Monti Sanders of Artesia, NM; sister, Makinzie and Kyle Goodner of Artesia, NM; two nieces: Kaizlee Goodner and Kylan Goodner of Artesia, NM; parents-in-law, James and Kim Bunch of Carlsbad, NM; brother-in law, Jimmy Bunch and wife, Monica of Carlsbad, NM; brother-in-law, Jeremey Bunch of Carlsbad, NM; nieces and nephews in law: Joyce Bunch, Jaylynn Bunch, Jimma Bunch, Jaydon Bunch, Grace Bunch, Garrett Bunch, and Austin Bunch; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
