Dorothy Nell Todd, 89, of Westridge Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, December 7, 2012, at Landsun Homes.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Dorothy Nell Todd was born on July 13, 1923, in Greenville, Kentucky to Delmar Linton and Nannie Myrtle (Hayes) Todd. She lived in Greenville until 1941. After graduating high school Dorothy moved to Las Vegas, New Mexico. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees at Highland University and was a music major. Dorothy had attended Western State University and Juilliard School of Music in New York City. She taught school in Espanola, NM and Farmington, NM, then in Whitharral, Texas. Dorothy worked at Shiprock, NM Public Schools until retirement in 1981. In 1983, she moved to Alamogordo. She directed the Bell Ringers Choir at Grace United Methodist Church. In 1995, she moved to Carlsbad. Dorothy played the organ for many functions at Landsun Homes. She was a member of the National Education Association, Delta Sigma Epsilon, Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa Kapp 10th, Lidia, Sigma Epsilon, and First United Methodist Church, Carlsbad. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Edward Todd; and sister, Nancy Louise Fischer.
Survivors are brother, Delmar Linton Todd, Jr. of Greenville, KY; nieces and nephews: Ganne Crimmins of Alamogordo, NM, Russell Fischer of Monticello, IL, Nancy Draper of Mason, Ohio, Robert Todd, Jr. of Danville, KY, Terry Perry of Greenville, KY, Leah Beth Dunn of Greenville, KY and her beloved cat, Keri.
