Dorothy E. Rainey, 84, of Westridge Road, Carlsbad, NM, passed away July 16, 2013 at Landsun Homes. Visitation will be 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM, Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, July 22, 2013, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Chester Hournbuckle officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Dorothy Rainey was born February 26, 1929 in Santa Ana, California to William Julius and Marie (Headwig) Streech. She grew up in California where she graduated from high school. Dorothy attended Fuller Junior College. She married Bill Rainey on May 14, 1961 in Las Vegas, NV. Dorothy worked in the claims department in the insurance business for a number of years. They moved to Carlsbad in 1979 where Dorothy worked at the hospital as a payroll clerk, retiring in 1991. Her hobbies included sewing, crafts, gardening and camping. Dorothy was a member of First Assembly of God. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 47 years, Bill Rainey; sister, Eleanor Streech and twin sister, Pricilla Huddleston. Survivors are two sons: Donald G. York and wife, Connie of Sparks, NV, Lance York and wife, Kim of Trabuco Canyon, CA; daughter, Charlene Thurmond and husband, Jim of Carlsbad, NM and four grandchildren: Joel Thurmond, Joy Thurmond, Karissa York and Kaili York,. Pallbearers will be Joel Thurmond, Jim Thurmond, Lance York, Terry Baker, James Bindel and Joe Thurmond. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
