Donald Eugene Jones

Donald Eugene Jones, 77, of Normandy Street, went home to the place that the Lord prepared for him on January 24, 2024. Don was born in Henryetta, Oklahoma on July 27, 1946, to Jimmie Delores Jones and Clarence Jones. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, the Lindsays, in Henryetta until his grandfather's death when Don was 13. He then moved to Carlsbad to live with his mother and stepfather. At the age of 16, Don hitchhiked to Los Angeles, California with his worldly belongings in a paper bag. He resided in Los Angeles for 33 years, where he established Don Jones Plumbing and worked as a plumber and contractor. Don returned to Carlsbad in 1992. He met his wife, Joy Fairley Jones, in 2001 and they married in 2004. He made sure her life was never dull. Don is best known by the citizens of Carlsbad as the proprietor of Keeping' Up with the Joneses, an antique and collectibles mall on South Canyon Street. Everyone who entered was offered a smile, a handshake, a cold drink and as much Okie wisdom as they could handle. He was a gregarious fellow who never knew a stranger and who was generous to all. He never left a voiced or perceived need go unmet. Don is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings John and Sandy Jones, and a nephew, Johnny Jones. He is survived by his wife Joy of Carlsbad, a son Nathan Jones and 2 grandsons Trevor and Ryan Jones of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, his best buddy and boyhood friend Mike McFarland of Roswell, and his constant companion and guardian, Toby the cat .The family wishes to thank J & J Homecare (especially Tish and Queena), Lakeview Christian Hospice (notably Jessica), Caregivers Victoria, Maria and Irma, and Pastors Brett and Tamela Smith for their care of and faithfulness to Don during his illness. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at Dayspring Fellowship, 411 South Olive Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don’s name to Dayspring Fellowship or to a charity of your choice.
