Obituary
Donald Eugene Cassels, 73, of Lakewood, New Mexico, graduated to his heavenly home on April 22, 2018 in Lubbock, Texas attended by his wife, Arlene Jenkins Cassels.
Don was born April 18, 1945, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Robert Bob Cassels and Ruth (Parks) Cassels. He grew up in Carlsbad, moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in the 11th grade, graduating from Western High School, Las Vegas in 1965. Don served 12 years in the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam, 1966-67 and 1969-70. He drove a truck transcontinental for many years and upon returning to Carlsbad in 2007, worked for the City of Carlsbad for a season. Don had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior and attended First Assembly of God. His favorite pastime was fishing and traveling across country in his RV. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Charles Cassels.
Don is survived by his wife; sister, Elizabeth Beth A. Cassels Galloway and husband, Ray of Carlsbad and three children: Jimmy Cassels and wife, Bonnie of Reedley, California, Andy Cassels of Clovis, California and Mandy Basile and husband, Mark of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and 11 grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at First Assembly of God, 1502 W. Mermod, Carlsbad, NM on Saturday, April 28, 2018, 3:00 PM, with Pastor Brad Coates officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
