Dolores "Lola" Martinez Hernandez, 88, of West Pierce Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away September 30, 2010 at Lakeview Christian Home. Visitation will be 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM, Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Funeral service is scheduled for Monday, October 4, 2010, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Goings officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Gilroy, California. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Dolores "Lola" Martinez Hernandez was born May 18, 1922 in Fort Davis, Texas to Miguel and Maria (Duran) Martinez. She attended Fort Davis, TX schools. Lola worked as a housekeeper until she married Enrique S. Hernandez. They were married March 4, 1939 in Fort Davis, Texas. They moved from Texas in 1943 to Carlsbad and then moved to California in1957. Lola became a housewife and raised their family. She relocated back to Carlsbad in 2009. Lola loved to sew and was known for making her asado cheese. She loved to play the piano and be with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1978; four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her five children: Rudy Hernandez and wife, Patricia of Challis, ID, Ernie Hernandez and wife, Grace of Las Vegas, NV, Alice Fierro and husband, Fidel of Carlsbad, NM, Henry Hernandez of Carlsbad, NM and Sara Amstutz and husband, Jeff of Gilroy, California; 12 grandchildren: Rudy, Ramon, Julie, Ernie, Lee, Erika, Gabriel, Marc, Tammy, Ernie, Amanda and Stephanie; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Donnie Martinez and wife, Rita of Carlsbad, NM and three sisters: Jovita Jimenez, Chris Riggs and husband, Gene, Mary Lou Perez and husband, Ralph all of Carlsbad, NM.
