Dessie Dell Griffin

Dessie Dell Griffin, 94, former resident, passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at Crestview Court in Cedar Hill, Texas. Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Friday, January 16, 2015 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2015, 9:30 AM, at Fox and Lake Church of Christ with Tony Stidham and Jim Garner officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Dessie Dell Griffin was born August 10, 1920 in Mitchell County, TX to Luther Edwin and Dessie May (Walker) Reese. She graduated from high school in Ackerly, TX. Dell married Joe A. Griffin on October 7, 1946 in Ackerly and they moved to Carlsbad in 1947. She was always involved in her kids lives. Dell was active at Hillcrest Elementary during those years and was a Campfire Girl Leader for several years. She was a long time member at Fox and Lake Church of Christ. Dell enjoyed sewing, crocheting, painting, sports, reading and working on the family genealogy. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe A. Griffin, brothers: Jack Reese, Luther Reese, E.M. Reese, Grady Reese and sister, Nell Justice. Survivors are her daughter, Sherry Martin and husband, Jim; sons: Joe A. Griffin and wife, Sharon, Kent Griffin and wife, Debbie; four grandchildren: Lesley Armstrong, Misty Kaiser, Greg Martin, Zandree Stidham; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Milburn Reese of Carlsbad, NM; sisters: Cynthia Huber of Carlsbad, NM, Marcia Hayes of Carlsbad, NM and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Pallbearers will be Gene Reese, Travis Reese, Jack Hayes, Kenneth Hayes, Danny Huber, Mike Huber and Donnie Reese.
