Derran Lee Goins

Derran Lee Goins, 57, a native of Carlsbad, passed away Aug. 8, 2023 in his home in Belle Vernon, PA. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Sunset Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens.

Born April 1,1966 in Carlsbad to Ronnie and Leatha Ann Smith Goins, he spent his early years in his hometown, leaving for a period of time to California and Roswell before returning to the town he loved so much. He spent the last 7 years of his life on the East Coast, but Carlsbad was always the place he called home.

Derran's entrepreneurial spirit led him to have a very fulfilling career. He was a commercial plumber and project manager for a company in Roswell for many years. His career culminated in a very fulfilling role as vice president Consolidated Mechanical Services Inc. (CMSI), where he built his division from the ground up. He believed in never leaving a job half done and took immense pride in his work.

In his nearly six decades on this Earth, he brought joy, love, laughter and steadfastness to everyone who knew him. A natural jokester (he was born on April Fools Day), he knew how to bring levity and fun to any situation, and how to be the calm, centering force in any storm when needed. He led his family with conviction, modeling principles of honesty, humility and kindness, and often reminded those he loved to not take life too seriously - to enjoy it and all the little, everyday moments. 

His children and grandchildren remember him as the person who taught them the importance of being good, reliable people - to give everything your all, and to do things to the best of your ability. They also remember him as being the most hands-on and loving father one could have. He taught his children valuable outdoorsman skills - hunting and fishing - and enjoyed spending hours playing their favorite video game, World of Warcraft, along with many other activities.  

An easy-going person, devoted partner, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, and faithful, God-loving man, Derran will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Leatha Ann Smith; grandparents Bob and Nadine Walker; Kenneth and Pearl Goins; uncles Kenny Goins and Eddie Goins; and aunt Edith Goins Jackson.

He is survived by his father, Ronnie Goins; partner, Jan Hale; daughters, Leatha Goins Lash and husband Tyler and Jennifer Howard; sons, Kyle Goins and Chris Chavez and wife Amanda; Athena Rae Solorio, mother to Leatha, Kyle and Chris; brothers Danny Goins and Ryan Goins and wife Joyce; sister, Shara Magby and husband Daniel; grandchildren, Bryson Lash, Teal and Katelynn Howard.
