Dennis Holman Sr

Dennis C. Holman, Sr., 68, of Verdel Avenue, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016 at Albuquerque, NM. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Friday, March 4, 2016 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 5, 2016, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor D. Michael Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Dennis C. Holman, Sr. was born May 4, 1947 in Carlsbad, NM to Charles and Betty (Hunt) Holman. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1965 and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he completed Ranger school in Alaska, serving during Vietnam as a sergeant in specialty forces 2 years and was a POW. Dennis married JoAnn Melvin here in Carlsbad. He went to work for Kerr McGee Potash where he was supervisor in load out and retired after 30 years of service. He owned and operated D's Pro Archery and Hunting Supplies and was a bow hunter and safety instructor. He was an avid outdoors enthusiast and enjoyed arrowhead hunting, rattlesnake wrangling, hunting and enjoyed woodworking specializing in game calls. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and wife, JoAnn Holman. Survivors are his son, Randy Holman and wife, Dona of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Randa Holman, Hana Holman; brother, Bobby Holman of Carlsbad, NM and several nieces and nephews.
