Delores A. Brown, 75, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Delores was born August 14, 1949, in Jena, LA, to Odell and Dorothy Calloway in Jena, Louisiana.
Visitation will be 5:00PM to 7:00PM, Friday, December 13, 2024 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A service will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 14, 2024. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery, with Pastor David McPherson officiating.
She was baptized at an early age at Mars Hill Baptist church in Jena, LA. She sung in the choir and contributed to her church in the way of church dinners and community events, when others were in need. Delores graduated from Good Pine High School in 1967 in Jena, Louisiana. She participated in activities throughout her years such as choir and future homemakers of America. Delores was influenced by her mother and grandmother in cooking, cleaning and household responsibility. She was a hard worker and always wanted things to be there best in presentation. Her best traits were making something out of nothing.
Delores married Edwin Brown Sr. in 1974, and they were married for 22 years until his death. She had special talents for cooking and Christmas home decorating. She had to put these skills to work when her mother died when she was 19 yrs old. She was responsible for taking care her father and sister. She carried these skills into her marriage where she raised 4 children who received the same care and training. We will always carry her memory in our hearts and her resilience in to life’s challenges.
Delores is survived by her four children: Edwin Brown Jr. of Carlsbad, NM, Eric Brown of Monticello, AR, Brandi Brown of Greensburg, LA, Megan Brown of Greensburg, LA; sisters: Kathryn and husband, Larry Phillips of Alamogordo, NM, Mildred and husband, George Henderson of Carlsbad, NM, Valerie Thompson of Macon, GA; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Delores was preceded in death by husband, Edwin Brown Sr.; parents, Odell and Dorothy Calloway; maternal grandparents, David and Mildred Owens; paternal grandparents, Ben and Anest Calloway; sister, Carolyn Dottie Satcher; aunt, Clima Washington.
