David G. Tackett, 70, of E. Blodgett Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away August 29, 2023 at University Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Sunset Church of Christ with Michael Joiner, Barry McDowell and Don Peterson officiating. 

David was born May 4, 1953 in Carlsbad, NM to George Willis and Hazel (Cooper) Tackett. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1971.  David married Machell Trower August 8, 1975 here in Carlsbad.  He worked for National Potash, AMAX and retired from Mosaic in 2015.  As a rescue trainer, David and the rescue teams received multiple awards for mine rescue during his tenure at Mosaic.  He served as a reserve officer for the Eddy County Sheriff’s Department and later served four years with the New Mexico Mounted Patrol.  David’s hobbies included gardening, genealogy, tinkering, thrifting, history, reading, but most of all traveling to Colorado and metal detecting for old railroad treasures. He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Hazel Tackett.

Survivors are his wife, Machell Tackett; daughters: Tawny Tackett, NaTisha Tackett and husband Jeff Schwartz; sister, Marilyn Tackett; brother, Glenn Tackett; niece and nephews: Stephanie Tackett, Kevin Tackett, Zach Trower, Preston and Amber Hitchcock, Justin and Jessie Hitchcock, Michael Trower, Heather Rollo, Brooke Frampton, Leah Arp, Diana McPherson, Linda Adams and Galen Adams; grandkitties: Sebastian, Penelope, Harvey, Magnus, Louie, Wolfie and Nikkie.
