David Duran Ornelas

David Duran Ornelas, Sr., 68, of N. 3rd St., Loving, New Mexico, passed away November 11, 2009 at his home. Visitation will be 3:00 - 5:00 PM Friday, November 13, 2009, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Vigil is scheduled for Friday, November 13, 2009, 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Loving, NM. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2009, 2:00 PM, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Loving, NM. Interment will follow at Loving Cemetery, Loving, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. David Duran Ornelas, Sr. was born October 25, 1941 in Loving, NM to Cruz Quientela and Angela (Duran) Ornelas. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and flirting. Friends and family loved to hear his guitar playing and his duets with his beloved wife. David played with the band Silouettes. He counted different generations, from children to seniors, as his special friends. His nieces and nephews came to him for laughter and fun. David always believed in the strength of his family as they gathered together for each other. David and Vivian were foster parents for 15 years. He was a hard worker for his family. David worked for Carlsbad Irrigation District, United Salt Supply, Borax Mines, Pecos Oil Mill, Loving Municipal Schools, and the Loving Head Start program as a custodian for 17 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Diana (Nana) Ornelas, sister Lucia Navarrette, brothers, Mike Ornelas and Cruz Ornelas, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Vivian Ornelas; sons: David Ornelas, Jr. and wife, Julie of Albuquerque, NM, Ervie Ornelas of Loving, NM; daughter: Maria Martinez and husband, Matthew of Loving, NM; grandchildren: David de Cruz Ornelas and Matthew Martinez, II; brothers: Alberto Ornelas and wife, Mary of Loving, NM, Ray Ornelas and wife, Norma of Loving, NM; sisters: Isabel Vasquez and husband, Lupe of Malaga, NM, Mary Lou Murillo and husband, Victor of Tucson, AZ, Criselda Johnson and husband, George of Athens, GA, Angie Ramirez and husband, David of Carlsbad, NM, Gloria Ornelas of Loving, NM, Rosa Elva Molina and husband, Jack of Loving, NM, Sally Estrada and husband, Pete of Loving, NM, and Linda Vasquez and husband, Charlie of Malaga, NM; special friends: Hiro and Hiroa Nemoto of Tokyo, Japan, and Sierra Cordova of Loving, NM. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Salmon, Jerald Salmon, Jimmy Joe Lopez, Cruz Ornelas, Raul Hernandez, Charlin Vasquez, David Ramirez, Jr., Pete Estrada, Jr., Jerry Martinez, Charlie Vasquez, Jr.Honorary pallbearers are all of his nieces, nephews and all of his godchildren.
