David Nicholas, 73, of Nicholas Road, Malaga, NM, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Monday, March 3, 2014 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
A Graveside Service is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, 2014, 11:00 AM, at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park with Pastor Rick Ketterling officiating.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
David Nicholas was born October 2, 1940 in Kenna, New Mexico to June A. and Fay E. (Lemons) Nicholas. He moved to Carlsbad in 1948. In 1958 he graduated from Carlsbad High School. Because of his love of music, he started a band in 1958 named, "David Nicholas and the Silver Spur". He played music for the Senior Citizens in Carlsbad and Artesia. He farmed for 54 years and also worked at many of the mines, where he was known as "Mr. Know". David was a great welder and mechanic and could fix anything. He was a lifelong member of the Elks. David was a master salsa maker. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Joe (Bubba) Nicholas.
Survivors are sister, Nina Kincaid and husband, Laurie; sons: Joe (Joker) Nicholas and wife, Marsha, Brian (Tater) Nicholas and wife, Jennifer; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one niece, two great-nephews; loyal dog, Roscoe and a host of dear friends.
Pallbearers will be Butch Munson, Norberto Rios, Mike Vasquez, Robert Valenzuela, Donnie Cantrell and Laurie Kincaid, Honorary pallbearers are John Hines, Tommy Garner and Trent Kirkes.
