David Marlin Hanttula of Los Altos Hills, California passed away on June 27, 2015 after an extended illness at the age of 77. His wife of 49 years, Shirley, was by his side. David was born in New Mexico to Eero and Elsie Hanttula. After serving 8 years in the Navy, David began his long and distinguished career as an electrical engineer at Varian Associates, ISS Sperry/Univac, and Apple, until he formed his successful consultancy EMC Engineering. He continued his work with Ridge Computers, Silicon Graphics, and Shoretel. His involvement with IEEE EMCS activities brought pleasure, pride and accomplishment. While his children were growing up, he served as Scout Leader with his sons and for Troop 76. His interests included collecting recipes, cooking/BBQ, growing tomatoes and chilies, birding, country music, and fly fishing. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his two sons, Daniel David and Michael Gabriel, and two grandchildren, Saylor and Elizabeth, sister, Christine Willis of NM, brothers Mike of TX, John, Joe and Tim Hanttula all of NM and many nieces and nephews.
