Danny Villescas

Danny Villescas, 73, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the University Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. Danny was born on September 20, 1950, in Pecos, TX to Roddy and Betty Villescas.

Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, June 17, 2024, at Oasis Church with Pastor Brett Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Carlsbad Cemetery in Carlsbad, NM.

Danny grew up in Pecos, TX and graduated from Pecos High School in 1969. He then enlisted in the United States Army where he faithfully and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. After returning, he married Priscilla on November 10, 1980. During that time, Danny worked for Pennzoil Sulfur Company for 21 years, until they moved to Carlsbad in 1992. He went back to school at New Mexico State University completing his associates degree, and then went on to earn his bachelors and masters degrees. During that time, he worked for Carlsbad Mental Health and Eddy County for 20 years as a case manager for juvenile corrections, and then he worked for the Eddy County Correction Center for 5 years, where he finally retired. This allowed Danny more time to devote to his lifelong passion of ministry. He always had a desire to help others come to know Jesus and share His love for them. Over the years, he went on many trips to Mexico and worked with prison ministries and programs that aided those addicted to substances. He also worked tirelessly with the same programs here, as well as troubled youth. Danny always had compassion for those lost and broken.

Danny also loved his family dearly, and helped raise his children and grandchildren to follow the Lord, instilling God’s word as their foundation. He made sure they had the tools and examples necessary to make God number one in their lives. He was the protector of his family, and always made sure each of them knew how special and loved they were. Danny was known to have a sweet tooth, and if he was home, you could most likely find him in his recliner watching his western shows. He also had a love for softball, and after he finished coaching, quickly began umpiring. Danny has left a legacy of faith, hard work, and living life with kindness and love for others in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Danny was preceded in death by his father, Roddy Villescas; mother, Betty (Dominguez) Villescas; son, Daniel “Danito” Martin Villescas; daughter, Cilla Duran; and grandson, Jarrod Olguin.

Danny is survived by his wife, Priscilla Villescas of Carlsbad, NM; four children: Karen Gomez of Lubbock, TX; Luis Villescas of Odessa, TX; D’Andra Villescas of Lubbock, TX; and Breanne Rodriguez and husband, Ricky of Lubbock, TX; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three siblings: Roddy Villescas and wife, Juanita of San Antonio, TX; Linda Munoz of Pecos, TX; and Mary Helen Urias and husband, Mario of Iraan, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be: Luis Villescas, Ricky Rodriguez, Matt Jaquez, Bryson Jaquez, Abel Carrillo, Seth Olguin, and Aaron Hernandez.
