Daniel "Dan" Dushman, 67, of San Juan Manor, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Friday, October 19, 2012, 2:30 PM, at Living Desert State Park with Rev. David W. Rogers officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Daniel "Dan" Dushman was born March 12, 1945 in New York, NY to Sydney and Belle (Schultz) Dushman. After high school, Dan earned his bachelors degree from Central Michigan University. He later received a Masters in Sociology from Western Michigan University. Dan married CarolAnn Fransen on August 21, 1973 in Kalamazoo, MI. He began teaching, as this was his passion. Dan soon found that his career took a different path and he started his long time employment with the EEOC, where he was an investigator of employment discrimination, retiring after 30 years of service. Dan had a great love for animals and thoroughly enjoyed his time at the Living Desert Zoo. He had a love for music, reading and studying and could often times be found researching a particular subject. He is survived by his wife, Carol Dushman of Carlsbad, NM and his dear friends at Lakeview Christian Home River Bend and Living Desert State Park, Metro Church of Christ in Michigan and Meg and Amos Dodson. Honorary pallbearers are Tom Hovorka, Jim Parnell, Jim Runkle, Ken Britt and Pat Wilburn. Memorial contributions may be made to Living Desert State Park, 1504 Miehls, Carlsbad, NM 88220.
