Connie Joe Hewitt

Carlsbad resident Connie Joe Hewitt went to be with the Lord on October 18, 2009. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends at home, which is where he wanted to be. Connie was born December 31, 1946, in Rodey, NM to Connie Woods and Antonia Reyes Hewitt. He attended schools in Hatch, NM where he excelled in football and basketball. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Western NM University. He met his best friend and love of his life, Karen Brown in Silver City. They were married December 27, 1971. His teaching and coaching career took him to Tularosa, Moriarty, Silver City and Carlsbad. Connie had a passion for everything he did, whether it was coaching, teaching, playing golf or woodworking, but his greatest passion was his loving family. Connie had tremendous faith in his Lord and Savior and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carlsbad. His father Connie Hewitt preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Karen of Carlsbad; daughter, Tammy and husband Jeff Sweet of Palmer, Alaska; son, Chad Hewitt and wife, Amanda of Artesia; daughter, Kami and husband, David Anciso of San Antonio, TX; son, Troy Maxey and wife Carla of Miramar, Fla.; daughter Mireia Narbona and husband, David of Barcelona Spain. The joys of his life were his grandchildren: Brandy and Amber Sweet; Kyle, Kaylee, Kade, and Connie Joe Hewitt II; Jaden, Jaxen, Jycen Anciso; Jensly Lowe; Ashton and Bryce Maxey; Jan Narbona. These children and so many more are all Hewitt's in his heart. His loving mother is Antonia Berry of Hatch. Connie was surrounded by adoring sisters; Nina and Ron Dorn of Leesburg, Georgia; Drusella and Dwight Wilkinson of Owensboro, Ky; Lois and Jim Trembly of Silver City, NM; Georgia and Owen Gramlich of Farmington, NM. He was also the loving son of his mother-in-law, Maureen Watts of Carlsbad, his father-in-law Ernie Brown and wife, Christine of Silver City, and his sister-in-law, Rena Turner and husband Jeff of Silver City. Numerous nieces and nephews were an extension of his children. Connie and Karen were blessed with many more children through teaching and coaching. The Hewitt house always had room for one more. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Connie Hewitt Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Carlsbad Foundation, 116 N. Canyon, Carlsbad, NM. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, October 25th at 1:30 PM at First Baptist Church, 112 N. Alameda, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
