Clyde Ernest Rodgers Clyde Ernest Rodgers, 89, of West Cherry Lane, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Goodlife. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for Monday, April 15, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., at the Carlsbad Cemetery with Chaplain Terry McKean officiating. Carlsbad Honor Guard will provide military honors and internment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Clyde Ernest Rodgers was born to Clyde Edgar and Mary Francis (Reich) Rodgers in Plainview, Arkansas on June 16, 1923. He graduated from Paris High School where he served as Vice President of his class and lettered in football, basketball and track. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy serving aboard the U.S.S. San Jacinto. Upon completing four years of service, Clyde moved to Carlsbad in 1946 to work for the Potash Company of America (PCA). On September 20, 1946, he married Betty Lou Johnson, and they had three sons who were all born and raised in Carlsbad. He completed training as an electrician in 1954, and after forty years, he retired in 1985. His love of baseball was evident in his early adulthood. Clyde played for the Potashers, the company team on the old Montgomery Field. He later became active with the Carlsbad National little league as a coach and board member. Clyde also built two pitching machines for the league. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. After the death of his wife in 1999, Clyde's activities included garage sales and spending time with his family, with special devotion to his great-grandchildren. He was a member of Sunset Church of Christ, IBEW, and a life member of VFW Post #3277. Clyde was preceeded in death by his parents, his wife of 53 years, Betty Lou Rodgers; sisters Magge Nell Lampkins, Mildred Kelton; brothers, J.W. Rodgers and Odell Rodgers. Survivors are his sons, Doyal Rodgers and wife, Shauna of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Terry Rodgers and wife Pam of Carlsbad, New Mexico and Ernest (Gene) Rodgers and wife Diane of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico; Six grandchildren; Chase Rodgers and wife Kellie, Katie Walter and husband Ryan, Keegan Rodgers, Brad Rodgers, Kyla Stephens and husband Brian, Kelsey Garza and husband J.J.; Nine great grandchildren Kyler, Brooke, Miles, Macie, Carlee, Kendra, Anessa, Alexia and Alyssa and sister, Vonda O'Kelley of Tulsa, OK. Pallbearers will be Chase Rodgers, Katie Walter, Keegan Rodgers, Kyla Stephens, Kelsey Garza and Kyler Rodgers. Honorary Pallbearers are his great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard, Goodlife and Lakeview Christian Hospice. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
