Visitation for Clyde Lester Englebright, an eighty-six year old Carlsbad resident will be 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Monday, October 24, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Land officiating. Interment will take place in Fairfield, Illinois. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Clyde was the second child born to Roy and Anna Englebright on July 21, 1930 in White County, Illinois and passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at home in Carlsbad. Clyde lived most of his life in Illinois until he moved to New Mexico in 1959. Clyde earned a bachelor's and master's degree in Education at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Upon graduation from his bachelor's degree, he taught elementary school grades 3-6 and his mother taught grades 1-3 in a two-room school house in southern Illinois for one year prior to being drafted in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Clyde married Julia Crews from Fairfield, Illinois on August 22, 1954 in Fairfield. After graduation from his master's degree, they moved to Carlsbad in 1959 where he taught at school at Malaga, New Mexico. Later, he taught school in Carlsbad Craft Elementary, Alta Vista Junior high school and retired from his teaching career at Eisenhower Junior high school on 1985 with a thirty-one year career span in teaching. He also sold Watkins products part-time from 1961 until he passed away. After retirement, he participated in Senior Olympics earning many certificates, metals, and trophies until his health began to decline two years ago. Clyde was a member of the Carlsbad First Baptist Church since 1959, serving in many capacities such as Deacon, Board of Trustees, and various committees of the church through the years. He was also a proud member of the Carlsbad Gideon Camp. Clyde is survived by his wife, Julia of 62 years; a daughter Rhonda L. Englebright Ray of Weatherford, Oklahoma; a son, Thomas L. Englebright and his wife, Tabitha of Phoenix, Arizona; grandson, Adam Ray and wife, Natalie of Lincoln, Nebraska; great grandson, Michael Alan Ray of Lincoln, Nebraska; and brother, Allen Englebright and wife, Nancy of Paris, Illinois. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Curtis and Larry Englebright; son-in-law, Mark Alan Ray. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Carlsbad Gideon Camp, Deacons of the Carlsbad First Baptist Church, and the Carlsbad Senior Olympic Team.
