Clyde L. Brooks, 83, of South Country Club Circle, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Lakeview Christian Home. Per Clyde's wishes, there will be no visitation. Interment was conducted on Friday, September 7, 2012, at Carlsbad Cemetery. The family will hold a memorial service on Thursday, September 27, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. at the Carlsbad Cemetery. Dan Boyd, First United Methodist Church, will officiate at the service. A reception will follow at the home of Dennis and Pam Langlitz, 1425 South Country Club Circle. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Clyde Leon Brooks was born in Plain Dealing, Louisiana, on August 25, 1929, to Elmer Sr. and Marie Angelica Brooks. He graduated from Kilgore High School, Kilgore, Texas in 1947. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California when he was honorably discharged and sent home by the Red Cross due to the sudden death of his father in October 1948. He married W. Joyce Niblett on January 21, 1950, in Vernon, Texas. Their first child, Pamela Joan Brooks, was born on January 10, 1951, in Port Arthur, Texas. They moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico in the summer of 1951. On September 6, 1954, twin daughters were born in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Shelley Corlee and Sheila Marie Brooks.
He was a partner and co-operator of Thriftyway Grocery Store and later two more convenience stores with his close friend, Arnold Crabb. Clyde and Arnold were licensed football officials and worked "the chain" for every home football game of the Carlsbad Cavemen for over 20 years. In 1964, Clyde went to work for Allstate Insurance Company, where he worked as an insurance agent for 27 years until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for many years and served as an ordained Deacon. He was one of the founding members of the Restoration Church and was currently a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Clyde and Joyce enjoyed many years of traveling and camping in their R.V./motor homes. He loved to fish and his favorite "fishing hole" was in Questa, New Mexico.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; two brothers; and his wife of 57 years, W. Joyce Brooks on January 15, 2007.
Survivors include his children: Pamela Langlitz and husband Dennis of Carlsbad, New Mexico; Shelley Marshall of New Braunsfels, Texas; Sheila King of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren: Leslie Langlitz Price and husband Korbin of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Collin Langlitz and wife Nani of Lubbock, Texas; Matthew Langlitz and wife Krystle of Carlsbad, New Mexico; Nathan Langlitz of Nashville, Tennessee; Amanda Marshall of San Antonio, Texas; Alysia Marshall of New Braunsfels, Texas; Les King of Hawaii; Tim King of Clovis, New Mexico; and eight great-grandchildren; brother, Billy Brooks and wife Cathy of Katy, Texas; sister Shirley Dollison of Pasadena, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Lakeview Christian Home, Lakeview Hospice, and all the nurses and caregivers who took such good care of him an gave him so much love and attention.
