Cleta Hughes

Obituary Cleta Hughes, 82, of Westridge Road, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Landsun Homes. Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM 7:00 PM, Friday, August 10, 2018 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Twin Oaks Memorial Park, Artesia, NM, with Rev. Ross Whiteaker officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Cleta Hughes and her twin sister, Rita were born May 12, 1936 in Searcy, Arkansas to Hershel E. and Cora (Gipson) Wingo. She moved to Hagerman, NM with her family in 1953. Cleta married Eddie Hughes January 12, 1954 in Hagerman. In 1957, they relocated to Cottonwood, NM. While raising her children, Cleta drove a school bus for the Cottonwood school. They lived in Carlsbad from 1971 1973 and Cleta worked at Carlsbad National Bank. She and Eddie lived in Seagraves, Petty, Ackerley and Lamesa, Texas while Eddie managed cotton gins and Cleta returned to Carlsbad in 2014. She was the proud Nana of 7 grandsons of whom she bragged about continuously. Cleta was an avid Beanie Baby collector for several years, collecting over seven hundred. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eddie Hughes; daughter, Marcia Willmore; two sisters and four brothers. Survivors are her daughter, Brenda Whiteaker and husband, Roger of Las Cruces, NM; son, Mike Hughes and wife, Cindy of Big Spring, Texas; grandsons: Ryan Whiteaker and wife, Becky, Ross Whiteaker and wife, Michelle, Jade Hughes and wife, Lizbeth, Brandon Hughes and wife, Cassie, Keaton Hughes and wife, Carissa, Dustin Rauch and wife, Rebecca, Cody Rauch and wife, Jamie; great-grandsons: Ashton Whiteaker, Johnnie and M.J. Rauch, Will, Max, Preston, Lincoln, Maverick, McKoy Hughes and Grayson Hughes; great-granddaughters: Rylee, Taryn, Ellice and Emmery Whiteaker, Jovie Hughes and Eden Rauch; brothers: Bill Wingo and Bob Wingo; sister, Rebecca Jenkins; numerous nieces and nephews and her special Landsun family.
