Clarence T. "Ole" Olson, 74, of Alamosa St., Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away August 20, 2011 at his home. Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, August 27, 2011, 10:30 AM, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, with The Rev. Geri Cunningham officiating. Clarence T. Olson was born February 24, 1937 in Steele, ND to Clarence Theodore Sr. and Faye Elizabeth (Woolsey) Olson. He joined the US Navy after high school and served aboard the USS ESSEX for two years. Ole worked 37 years for IMCC (now Mosaic Potash) retiring in 1999 as a general foreman in the sulfate plant. A valued member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, he was instrumental in its organization in 1962 and was considered the principal "groundskeeper" of the church property. He will be especially remembered by the children of the congregation. Ole served as the treasurer of Carlsbad Community Theatre and was named a "Master Builder" of sets by the Board of Directors. He was treasurer of CARC Inc. Farmhouse Bargain Store. In his retirement, he enjoyed xeriscape gardening and bowling with his friends on the CARC Inc. bowling team and was an avid and active supporter of Special Olympics NM - Carlsbad. His five grandchildren knew that he or she was his favorite because of the individual love and attention that he gave to each one. They were his greatest treasures. He was preceded in death by his father Clarence T. Olson, Sr., brother, Ben Olson, and son, Mark Alan Olson. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Olson of Carlsbad, NM; mother, Faye Elizabeth Olson, of Bismark, ND; daughters: Caron Powers and husband, Michael, of Portales, NM, Jennifer Sundre and husband, Mark, of Friona, TX; son: Eric Olson and wife, Saylor, of Lubbock, TX; grandchildren: Jefferson and Jackson Powers, Hayden and Hunter Sundre, and Kelsey Olson; brothers: Daryel Olson and wife, Mary Jo, of WA, Kenneth Olson and wife, Linda, and Robert Olson; sisters: Florence Mack, Sharon Bemis, Judy Laib and husband, Mike, all of ND.
