From an early age, Junior surrounded himself with a large and loving network of friends which spread across New Mexico and eventually the USA. When you met Junior, you instantly liked him and there was a good chance he would be your friend for life. He was a skilled raconteur (storyteller) who could buckle you with his quick wit and bring tears with laughter. Junior was generous, earnest and a principled man who cared deeply about others. Junior met the love of his life, Marguerite, while both were working for the Santa Fe Railroad. He worked as a conductor and she was a clerk. They married in 1946. Shortly after their marriage, Junior was drafted into the Army, receiving an honorable discharge. Junior was active in a number of organizations. He served as president of the New Mexico Square Dance Association from 1968 - 1969. He was the vice president of the Pecan Fiesta in the days when Carlsbad celebrated the Pecan Harvest. He was most active in the Good Sams Club as well as the Sportsman Club and held offices in both organizations, on both local and state levels. He served as president and assistant State Director of the New Mexico Chapter of the Good Sams Club. His love for hunting, fishing and the great outdoors led him to be active as a life member of Carlsbad Sportsman Club. He was an outspoken member when government mandates impacted the areas of the ecological system and hunting and fishing. At Christmas time, you would find him selling Christmas trees with the proceeds going to a variety of Carlsbad Civic projects. For several years, during Christmas, Junior would set up his prized model railroad at the mall and volunteered as Santa Claus. As a lifetime member of the Good Sams Club, taking long and short trips in his RV with the Good Sams, added to his many good friends over the years. Proceeds from other fund raising efforts were used to purchase hearing dogs for the deaf. He was a lifetime member of the Carlsbad Elks Club. In 1995, Junior and Marguerite received the Special Recognition Award by the Carlsbad Foundation who recognized them for their civic contributions to the city of Carlsbad. The family would like to thank the staff of Landsun homes and Landsun Hospice for their superb care of Junior.
