Clarence Alonzo Cummons

Clarence A. Cummons, 90, of Concho Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Carlsbad Medical Center. Cremation has taken place and there will be no local service. Interment will take place in Missouri at a later date. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Clarence A. Cummons was born on August 31, 1922, in Cassville, Missouri to Richard Clarence and Emily Marie (Haddock) Cummons. He grew up in North Dakota and Missouri. Clarence served his country during WWII in the US Marine Corp where he spent over 3 years in prison camp in the Philippines and Japan. After the war, he married Etta LaFaun Robertson on March 19, 1946 in Kansas City. Clarence worked as an inspector for the Bureau of Explosives with the Railroad and retired after 36 years of service. He had a fondness for New Mexico and moved to Carlsbad in 1984 after retiring. Not only was he an animal lover, but he enjoyed gardening and was a diehard Cardinals fan. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Etta LaFaun Cummons; son, Ronald Cummons; infant son, Clarence Cummons, Jr.; brother, Ray Cummons and sister, Georgia Preddy. Survivors are his granddaughter, Carrie Cairns and husband, David of Lee's Summit, Missouri; grandson, Philip Cummons and wife, Rachel of Peculiar, Missouri; great grandchildren: Chloe and Courtney Cairns, Felecia and Gavin Cummons, Hope and Faith Stillings; daughter-in-law, Sue Cummons of Lee's Summit, Missouri; brothers: Sonny Cummons and Charles Lawmaster; sisters: Frankie Bristow and Boots Cummons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
