Christine Ann Goodyear

May 6, 1940 — July 31, 2024

Carlsbad

Christine Ann Outwin Goodyear of Carlsbad, NM went to be with the Lord on July 31, 2024. Chris was born in Muskegon, MI on May 6, 1940 to Frank Arthur Califf and Jane Lois Kemp Califf. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 PM, Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Assumption Catholic Church in Roswell, NM with Fr. Jarek officiating.

Chris graduated from Muskegon Heights High in 1958. She decided she wanted an adventure, so she traveled to NM with a family stationed at Walker AFB in Roswell leaving her family behind. Her mother, grandmother, father, and sister Peg, who was more alike than they wanted to admit. Bob, her crazy brother who is not afraid of anything. Mike, her youngest brother, the perfectionist who she loved to aggravate (remember the toy gun)! And Jodi, her baby sister who bravely dealt with her disability until God brought her home. She had no plans to stay in NM, but fate had a funny way of stepping in and ruining a perfectly good plan. She met two men, one wonderful and sane, the other-well, you can guess she chose the wrong one. Her early years were filled with a divorce, raising 2 girls by herself, attending college and living on the wild side (after all it was the 60’s).

God has a way of stepping in even before you realize you need Him. She turned her back on her wild life and began her journey to where she is now, with her Lord. She studied over 2 years with a Franciscan priest, Fr. Neri Greskoviak and finally became a full-fledged Catholic in 1972. Becoming Catholic was a coming home for her. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Roswell for many years and was very active, teaching CCD, a lector, etc.` during this time. Ater many years, she concluded that she wanted to cut back with her involvement and started attending Assumption Church, which was closer to where she lived. A wise Franciscan priest told her that changing churches to keep from being involved never works and he was so right. She met her best friend at Assumption, Fr. Sylvester D’Cruz, from India who came for a short time and is now back in his home country. He brought her closer than ever to the Lord, whom she loved above all else. She also developed a strong relationship with the Poor Clare’s. They constantly prayed for her. Just being able to run errands and take them to appointments was such a blessing. Prayer works, so please, never stop praying and talking with God.

In 2012, Chris moved to Carlsbad, NM. This was a blessing for her to spend more time with family and grandchildren. Chris enjoyed just spending time with family ... playing games, watching movies, doing puzzles, baking cookies, or just sitting on the couch together singing Disney songs.

Chris requested that in lieu of flowers please, buy a friend a flower, do a good deed or take your friends or family out to dinner. She was preceded in death by both her parents, stepfather, William Outwin, sister Jodi, and grandson Alex. She is survived by daughters, Tammy Henry and husband Don of Roswell NM, Jeanette Leivo and husband Brian of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren, Aimee Newberry and Michael Dees of Roswell, NM and Jensen and Rylee Leivo of Carlsbad, NM; great grandchildren, Aaron, Kolton, and Shelby of Roswell, NM; sister, Peg Outwin and brothers Mike and Bob Outwin, all of Muskegon, MI.
