Cheryl Lynn Clark, 66, passed away June 3, 2023, in Roswell, NM. Visitation will be Friday, June 9, 2023, from 4 PM to 6 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Denton-Wood Funeral Home on June 10, 2023, at 2 PM. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery.
Cheryl was born in Carlsbad, NM on June 20, 1956, to Samuel D. Clark and Elizabeth Ann Clark. She attended Carlsbad Municipal Schools and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1974.
Cheryl loved sports and had great athletic ability. While in high school she played left field in women's fast-pitch softball. She enjoyed watching football and was always rooting for her Dallas Cowboys and the Carlsbad Cavemen. Cheryl's parents owned Jays Drive-In where she worked for many years. She also worked for Pennzoil before becoming disabled. Cheryl had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. She attended college receiving a master's degree in business administration. She continued education in criminal justice and wanted to become a lawyer. Cheryl loved animals. She would care for any animal that needed it. Sometimes this meant she would have dozens of cats. She was also an avid birdwatcher, always carrying a pair of binoculars with her.
Above all else Cheryl was a God-fearing woman who would witness about the love of Jesus Christ to anyone that would listen. She never turned away from a friend in need. She was always willing to help others. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents Sammy and Ann Clark, nephew James Slusher, and longtime friend Don York.
Cheryl is survived by her sisters, Carla Clark of Carlsbad, NM, and Sammie Stephens and husband Scott of Fort Collins, CO; nephew Dustin Slusher, niece Amber Slusher and fiancé Jose Campos; great-nephews Hayden Smith, and Lucas Campos, and great-niece Irie-Ann Campos all of Carlsbad, NM.
The pallbearers will be Jose Campos and Casey Tanner.
Honorary Pallbearers are Dustin Slusher, Hayden Smith, Larry Clark, Scott Stephens, Tammy Tanner, and Irma Phillips.
The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Noah's Ark or Cat's Meow.
