Charlsie Hughes, 86, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 in El Paso, Texas. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, April 18, 2014, 10:30 AM, at Guadalupe Christian Camp with Rusty Smith and Rev. Tommy Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in Hughes Cemetery, in Dog Canyon, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Charlsie Hughes was born January 1, 1928 in Strawn, Texas to Thomas Riley and Lillie Leona (Carson) Roberson. She graduated at Strawn High School in 1947. Charlsie came to Carlsbad to visit a cousin and end up marrying Woodie Recien Hughes on July 22, 1947 here in Carlsbad. They lived on the family ranch in Dog Canyon, NM. After Woodie died in 2004, Charlsie moved to be with her daughter near El Paso. She enjoyed crocheting and reading and loved being with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Woodie Recien Hughes; son, Woodie Orland Hughes; 5 brothers and 1 sister. Survivors are daughter, Bonnie Mills and husband, James of El Paso, Texas; grandchildren: Shannon Willis and husband, Christopher of Hobbs, NM, Dana Hall and husband, James of Gilbert, AZ, Amber Hughes of Tempe, AZ, Woodie Samuel Hughes and wife, Kathryn of Tucson, AZ; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Salty Hughes, Clint Hughes, Trey Hughes, Trent Hughes, Ray Ballard and Lynn Ballard. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Lawson, Laurie Kincaid, Marion Hughes and Travis Beard. Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
