Celia Rojo

Celia Soto Rojo, 84, of Landsun Drive, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015 at her daughter and son-in-law's home. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, 2015, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Stephanie Harmon officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Celia Soto Rojo was born October 21, 1930 in Loving, NM to Angelita C. Soto On January 28, 1971 she married Antonio Rojo. Celia worked at Woolworth's for 17 years and later at local pawn shops. She volunteered for 10 years as secretary for Santa Catarina Cemetery. Celia was proud of her only daughter's accomplishments of graduating from college, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Science degrees and retiring from the Loving School District after 34 years of service. She was a very proud momma and a great role model to her daughter. Celia helped take care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sports activities. Celia adored her son-in-law's cooking and loved him as a son. She was an avid Carlsbad Caveman and Loving Falcon fan, always listening to Jerry Florez broadcasting the games. It always brightened her day when Jerry would acknowledge Celia on the radio, wishing her a happy birthday.Celia enjoyed listening to Community Forum with Bob Scholl broadcasting. Celia enjoyed watching football and being a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings to keep peace in the family. She was preceded in death by her mother; husband, Antonio "Tony" Rojo; brothers: Fernando Soto, Sr., Enrique Soto, William Soto; sisters: Elena Fierro, Carmen Soto, Aurora Ruiz, Angelita Villa, Elizabeth Samaniego and Belen Soto. Celia never met a stranger and always got along with everyone with a smile. She will be deeply missed. Survivors are her daughter (from a previous marriage), Angelita "Angie" Soto Parraz and husband, Ray, Sr. of Carlsbad, NM; granddaughter, Sally Perez (Manny) of Carlsbad, NM, grandson, Ray Parraz, Jr. (Veronica); great-grandchildren: Amara Perez, Samirah Peterson, Frank Allan Perez, Isaiah Parraz, Devin Parraz, Kevin Parraz; brothers: Solomon C. Soto (Margaret) of Carlsbad, NM, Benny Soto (Cecilia) of Carlsbad, NM; sister, Lydia Garcia (Henry) of Elko, Nevada; sister-in-law, Julia Soto of Roswell, NM and brother-in-law, Ted Villa of La Puente, CA. Pallbearers will be Ray Parraz, Jr., Manny Perez, Benny Soto, David Anderson, Vinny White and Edward Soto, Sr. Honorary pallbearers are Bob and LaWanda Scholl, Bill and Shamrock Hall, Lydia Garcia, Mary Webber, Irene Soto, Cecilia Soto, Solomon Soto and Jeff Diamond.
