Carmen P. Castaneda, 74, of W. Juarez Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, December 26, 2014 at her home.
Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at San Jose Catholic Church
A vigil is scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2014, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday, December 31, 2014, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Agnel Anthony officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Carmen P. Castaneda was born March 26, 1940 in Carlsbad, NM to Jose Rosario and Simona (Briceo) Payanes, Sr. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1960. Carmen worked as a Pharmacy Tech at St. Francis Hospital, Guadalupe Medical Center and retired with Carlsbad Medical Center after 37 years of service. She married Aurelio Castaneda October 28, 1978. Carmen was a charter member of the San Jose Court of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and served as the first Regent of the Court. She was a lifetime member San Jose Catholic Church where she served in countless ministries. Carmen was a very generous person and never met a stranger. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Aurelio Castaneda, Sr. and son, Arty Castaneda.
Survivors are sons: Aurelio Castaneda, Jr. and Mark Castaneda, both of Orange County, California; daughters: Chris Roscon of Carlsbad, NM, Barbara Castaneda of Houston, Texas, Jeanette Ford and husband, Sam of Ft. Stockton, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters: Julia Stone and husband, Gary of Albuquerque, NM, Albina Sanchez of Carlsbad, NM; brothers: Francisco Payanes and wife, Sara of Modesto, California, Reyes Arturo Payanes, Sr. of Carlsbad, NM, Jose Rosario Payanes, Jr. and wife, Linda of Carlsbad, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews
Pallbearers will be Robert Sanchez, Reyes Arturo Payanes, Jr., Omar Payanes, Michael Payanes, Carlos Payanes, Jose Payanes, III, Gary Michael Stone and Stephen Stone.
