Brittany Nicole (Grizzle) Martin, 37, of Doepp Drive, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Friday, May 5, 2017 at First United Methodist Church new fellowship hall. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 6, 2017, 3:00 PM, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Boyd officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Brittany Nicole (Grizzle) Martin was born August 15, 1979 in Dodge City, Kansas. She attended grade school in Edmond, Oklahoma and graduated from Edmond North High School in 1998. Brittany danced with Kim Massay Dance Studio throughout her school years. She graduated from the University of Tulsa with a B.S. in Speech Pathology in 2002. That year she received the award for the most outstanding student in the Communications Disorders School at University of Tulsa. Following graduation Brittany backpacked Europe for six weeks with one of her closest friends. Brittany received a Masters in Speech Pathology from the University of Tulsa in 2004. She married Lane Martin in July of 2004 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and they moved to Carlsbad later that same month. Brittany worked as a Speech Pathologist helping the kids in the Carlsbad Public Schools for over 13 years. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Pecos River Valley Emmaus Community. She loved serving at a team member on "Walks To Emmaus" and "Journeys" with her closest girlfriends. Brittany was an integral part of establishing "Special Friends" which was the first Vacation Bible School for special needs children ever established in Carlsbad. "Special Friends" continues and is held every Summer at First United Methodist Church in Carlsbad. She loved her Bible Study groups and attending worship events and conferences. Brittany was a member of the Parent Teacher Associations where her children attended school, and was a member of the BO Chapter of P.E.O. Her highest life values were her faith, family and friends. She was awesome! She was fearless! Survivors are her husband, Lane Martin of Carlsbad, NM; children: Ellis Quinn Martin, Audrey Claire Martin and Pearce Thomas Martin; parents, MG (Ret) Jerry and Shawn Grizzle of Roswell, NM; brother, Matthew R. Grizzle of Edmond, Oklahoma; father and mother-in-law, W.T. "Tom" and Carol Martin of Carlsbad, NM; sisters-in-law, Dara Allen and husband, Greg of Austin, Texas, Jeni Dugan and husband, Ken of Carlsbad, NM; nephews and nieces: Davis Dugan, Alexa Dugan, Abbey Dugan, Lacey Dugan, Collette Allen and Camille Allen and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. In honor of Brittany, the family is establishing a charitable fund entitled "Brittany's Hope". All monies donated to "Brittany's Hope" will be used to benefit indigent cancer patients in the Carlsbad area who are in need of monies to pay for cancer medications, services, and other expenses relating to cancer care. The goal of "Brittany's Hope" is to make sure every cancer warrior in Carlsbad, Loving, and the surrounding area has the financial resources to battle their cancer with reasonable and necessary medical care. Initial contributions to "Brittany's Hope" may be made to "Brittany's Hope" c/o Faith, Hope & Love Foundation, 933 N. Canal Street, Carlsbad, NM 88220.
