Briann Chantel Dorado, 32, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Briann was born on June 21, 1991, in Carlsbad, NM to Paul Dorado and Elsie Lara.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Rosary is scheduled for 9:30 AM Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at San Jose Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will take place at the Carlsbad Cemetery in Carlsbad, NM with Pastor Dennis McKinley officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Briann was a bright light and showered others with love and a hug wherever she went. As a kid, she fell in love with Barney, which she carried on to this day. She grew up playing different sports, having picked up golfing at the age of 5. She was a natural at softball, and she could throw and hit the ball harder than everyone else. She excelled at competing in the New Mexico Special Olympics, and became state champion 9 years in a row in both softball throw and 50 meter dash. Briann enjoyed swimming and doing water aerobics, bowling, dancing, collecting books and markers, and eating her favorite food, chicken. She also developed a keen eye for fashion, and loved collecting purses and makeup. Briann was full of life, and was the best daughter, granddaughter, sister, and aunt. Her love and bright smile will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.  

 Briann was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Ruben and Manuela “Nellie” Gonzales; stepfather, David Lara; uncles: Porfilio Gonzales, Larry Yturralde, and Tomas Elizondo; and cousin, Chelsey Michelle Dorado. Briann is survived by her father, Paul Dorado of Carlsbad, NM; mother, Elsie (Gonzales) Lara of Carlsbad; two sisters: Lindsey Lara and Jose Medina of Carlsbad,   NM; and Isabella Lara and Zachary Eichwald of Los Lunas, NM; two nieces, Rose Medina and Gabriella Medina; paternal grandparents: Pablo and Priscilla Dorado of Carlsbad, NM; paternal aunts and uncles: Phil Dorado, John Dorado (Cheril), and Jason Dorado (Diana); paternal cousins: Brandon Dorado and Caitlyn Dorado; maternal aunts and uncles: Anna Yturralde, Josie Elizondo, Ruben Gonzales (May), and Evelyn Jaquez; close friend, Allison Roberts; and numerous maternal cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jason Dorado, Brandon Dorado Caitlyn Dorado, Sal Rey Salcido, Jose Medina, Zachary Eichwald, Ruben Gonzales, Jimmy Gomez, Larry Yturralde, and Gerard Jaquez.
