Obituary Brenda Smith, 61, of Carlsbad, went to rest with the Lord on August 11, 2019 at her home in Carlsbad, NM. Cremation has taken pace and there will be no services. Anyone who knew Brenda knows she would absolutely hate a viewing and service. Brenda was born February 2, 1958 in Carlsbad, NM to William G. Smith and Ann Smith. She was raised in Dog Canyon on Smith Ranch. Before graduating from Carlsbad High School in 1975, Brenda had a championship history showing steer at FFA competitions. She attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor of accountancy. She worked in various accounting roles in Texas before returning to Carlsbad in 1992 to help care for her mother. Brenda served as Executive Director of Southeastern New Mexico Community Action Corporation where she was integral to the foundation and formation of the Carlsbad Head Start program for low-income families. Brenda courageously battled mental illness, and was brave enough to speak out about her illness. Her passion was her daughter, Kerry Smith. Brenda enjoyed gardening, taking care of her beloved pets and Starbucks runs with her best friend, Pam. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, William C. Smith and Ann Smith and older brother, William G. Smith, Jr. Survivors are her beloved daughter, Kerry Smith; older brother, Terry L. Smith; dear friend, Pamela Brown-Silva and fur babies, Chaco and Latte.
