Billy Joe Templeton

Billy Joe Templeton, 90, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. Joe was born on December 20, 1933, in Haskell, TX to James and Telitha Templeton.

Cremation has taken place, and a graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the Carlsbad Cemetery in Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of making arrangements.

Joe was a hard worker and had an independent personality. He enjoyed fishing, umpiring, and played in his younger years on a semi professional baseball team. He loved his wife, Terri unconditionally, and enjoyed showing her how to cook all kinds of recipes. They first met at a Bob Wills concert in Carlsbad, and later would travel to Turkey, TX to watch him perform. Joe was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, talented builder, and auction enthusiast. He also took pride in his pecan orchard, where he could be found riding around on his lawnmower as he tended to each tree. He worked for over 50 years as a pipefitter/welder for Local Union 412, along with his brother-in-law and friend Delbert Tayler. He truly was a man who lived life to the fullest, and would take every opportunity to tell his friends and family how much he loved them. Joe will be dearly missed and never forgotten.   

Joe was preceded in death by his father, James Albert Templeton; mother, Telitha Mae (Tullus) Templeton; wife, Terri Joyce Ann Templeton; daughter, Telitha Plank; and eleven siblings.

Joe is survived by his two daughters: Tanya Templeton of Carlsbad, NM; and Tina Jones of Parker, CO; special seven grandchildren: Randa, Marcus, Jennifer, Melissa, Harry, Billy, and Scotty; sixteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sister, Juanita O’Dell of Winters, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and the Steven’s Coffee Family.

Special honorary pallbearers are: Wayne Zufelt, Delbert Taylor, Wess Plank, and Jess and Della Laman.
