Billie Louise Stephens

Billie L. Stephens, age 89, passed from this life on February 13, 2016. Billie was born on August 13, 1926 in Sweetwater, Oklahoma to Doctor Horace and Ruth Angeline (Ward) Burnett. She was married January 1, 1947 to James Francis Stephens. She was a long-time resident of Carlsbad, NM. Billie was Business Manager of Carlsbad Horticulture Society for 27 years, a member of Friends of the Living Desert in Carlsbad and a member of the Sunset Church of Christ in Carlsbad. Billie is survived by daughter, Linda Hoopes and husband, Author of Ruidoso, NM; son, Kenneth Stephens and wife, Holly of Rockwall, TX; granddaughter, Kendall Stephens and grandson, Michael Stephens of Rockwall, TX; brother, Wriley Burnett and wife, Nancy of Albuquerque, NM; sister, J. Ruth (Sissy) Harrison and husband, Don of Freeport, FL; sister-in-law, Mary Burnett of Albuquerque, NM; sister-in-law, Carlene Burnett of Albuquerque, NM; sister-in-law, Helen Burnett of Capitan, NM; and many nieces and nephews. Billie was preceded in death by spouse, J. Frances Stephens; brothers Bob Burnett, Max Burnett, Charles Burnett and Paul Burnett. A graveside memorial service will be held at Carlsbad Cemetery on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 1:00 PM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
