Betty Ruth Dalton of Carlsbad, NM, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 3:00 AM, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 5, 1926 in Bradford, Illinois. Upon high school graduation and two years of college, she spent her working years in metropolitan areas. Betty worked as an administrative assistant at Caterpillar Tractor Company; worked 15 years in the medical field as a medical transcriber and administrative assistant; and as assistant for a vice president at Home Federal Savings & Loan in San Diego, CA. Upon retiring, she settled in Alamogordo, NM, where she met her husband, Russell E. Dalton. They moved to Carlsbad in August 2010. Betty was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert T. Camey of Peoria, IL, David L. Camey of Egg Harbor, NJ and Michael D. Camey of Kewanee, IL. Survivors are her husband, Russell E. Dalton; brother, James J. Camey of Egg Harbor, NJ; Mary E. Hayes of Morton, IL and Patricia A. Hamilton of Peoria, IL; four children: Kathleen R. Kearney of Tucson, AZ, Shannon E. Rose and husband, James of San Diego, CA; Sean P. Kearney of Tucson, AZ; Patricia J. Kearney of Carlsbad, NM; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Betty enjoyed family, dancing, hiking, exercising, golfing, games (especially bridge), sewing and volunteering. She exhibited a great sense of humor, a generous spirit and she made friends with ease. She is dearly loved by her family.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
