Betty Bob "Pinky" Pendergrass, 89, of North Ash Street, Carlsbad, NM, went to be home with the Lord on Friday, February 24, 2012, at Lakeview Christian Home.
Per her wishes, cremation will take place. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Sunday, February 26, 2012, 2:00 PM, at Lakeview Christian Home Chapel with Rev. David W. Rogers officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Pinky Pendergrass was born January 11, 1923, in Atlanta, Texas. She spent her childhood in Red River Parish, Louisiana. She moved to Carlsbad in the 1940s and soon married Kenneth E. Pendergrass. She was a long-time member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and in the last few years became a member of First Christian Church.
Pinky worked with her husband, Kenneth, and brother-in-law, Pete Pendergrass, in their business, Carlsbad Sheet Metal for many years. She enjoyed going to the family cabin in Silverton, Colorado as her children grew up. Upon retirement, Pinky and Kenneth were avid fishermen. They traveled the southwest in their RV, pulling their boat behind them. Their special fishin' hole was Heron Lake, NM.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Looney Hutchins and Blanche Hutchins Nifong; son, Kenneth "K.A." Pendergrass; and brother, Ted Hutchins.
Survivors are her husband, Kenneth, a resident of Lakeview Christian Home; son, Adrian "Pudgy" Pendergrass of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Tanya Herald of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and grandson, Keith Pendergrass of San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lakeview Hospice.
