Betty Gail Lawson 79, of Cimarron Trail Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away January 30, 2024 at Good Life Assisted Living. Betty was born October 30th, 1944, in Hobbs, NM to LeRoy and Frances Gail (Richards) Sumruld. Betty graduated from Lovington High School in 1962. She attended College of the Southwest and NMSU Carlsbad. In August 1963 she married Carroll Anthony Caudill and together they had two sons: Carroll Anthony and Christopher Alan. Soon after their marriage they moved to Amarillo, TX. There Betty worked at the police department. Soon after the birth of their son they moved to Carlsbad where Carroll worked at the mines. After the birth of their second son, they moved to Battle Mountain, NV. Moving from there to Riverside, CA where she worked for the Riverside Fire Department. After returning to Lovington, NM she worked at the Lea County Auction as a bookkeeper and weighmaster. In 1985, she returned to Carlsbad and in October of 1987 she married Thomas Daniel (Tommy) Lawson. During her years of working, she worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper at Manganaro and Roberts Accounting firm. Later on, she worked for CID as a bookkeeper and retiring in 2009. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church where she served on the Bereavement Committee, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Frances Gail (Richards) Sumruld; husband, Tommy Lawson; son, Carroll Caudill, II; sister, Roi Kay Flatt. Betty is survived by her son, Christopher Caudill and wife, Connie; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Caudill; stepdaughter, Cyndi Trower Kirksey and husband, Gary; stepdaughter, Colleen Rogers and husband, Mike; stepson, Ross Lawson and wife, Karen; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Sue Brinkley and husband, Ralph, and numerous nieces and nephews.
