Betty J. Oney

Betty J. Oney, 84, of N. 6th Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at her home. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Friday, April 18, 2014, 11:00 AM, at Fox and Lake Church of Christ with Mike Veilleux officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Betty J. Oney was born August 24, 1929 in Sedan, Kansas to Levi and Edith (Barlow) Foster. In 1946, she married Chalmer Oney in Mountainair, New Mexico. They moved to Carlsbad in 1951. Betty always had a smile on her face. She never met a stranger and was always nice and caring. She always wanted to help others. When she was younger she played the drums and piano. Betty loved to talk and be with her family. She enjoyed cooking and loved to feed people. One of her favorites was green chiliburgers from Sonic. She was the world's biggest animal lover. Betty was very crafty and loved to sew. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chalmer Oney; sons: Dale Oney, Preston Oney; son-in-law, Mike Smith; daughter-in-law, Sallie Oney and grandson, John Morton. Survivors are her daughter, Diana Smith of Carlsbad, NM; son, John Oney of Carlsbad, NM; nine grandchildren: Melissa Treadaway, Karen Jones, Lisa Franco, Lori Garcia, Sherrie Boston, Tracy Park, Brian Oney, Tera Trujillo and Matthew Hiles; 25 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; step-mother, Nina Foster of Sedan, Kansas and sister-in-law: Jennifer Oney.
